BRUSSELS – European Commissioner Cristophe Hansen and Elizabeth Werner, director-general of DG AGRI, consulted Belgian farmers on the CAP Simplification Package this past Sunday, 5th October.
Hansen highlighted the Commission’s approach, summarising it as “Simplification, Implementation and Enforcement,” while also emphasising farmers’ priorities of “simplification, increased support for small farms and generational renewal.”
The insights gathered during the meetings are expected to feed directly into the CAP reform process, which aims to create a more equitable and effective framework for EU agriculture.
The new CAP Simplification Package was submitted earlier this year, in May. It aims to support farmers and enhance competitiveness by reducing administrative burdens and offering more flexibility regarding environmental requirements for small and medium-sized farms. The European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) will hold a preparatory meeting next Tuesday, 7 October 2025, to discuss the Commission's proposal.
